Illustration of Norma as a snail traveling along a widening spiral path from light into darkness, with the words, “We circle back, but each turn widens the world.

Widening Circles

We circle back,
but each turn widens the world.

Insight

I once thought of growth as forward movement—learning, overcoming, leaving things behind. But the longer I live, the more growth feels like a spiral.

We circle back to familiar questions, struggles, and parts of ourselves, but we never return as quite the same person. Life has happened. We have experienced, learned, and changed.

Returning is not going backward. Sometimes it is simply another turn of the spiral, allowing us to encounter something familiar from a wider perspective.

On Reflection

Where are you circling back in your life—and what is different in you this time?
